Oaxaca initiates 2026-2027 electoral process and infrastructure plans

Oaxaca is experiencing several significant political and administrative developments. Governor Salomón Jara Cruz announced that the state government will implement over 60 social and infrastructure projects in the Metropolitan Area by the end of 2026, including improvements to mobility, water resources, and public spaces.

Simultaneously, the local electoral process for the 2026-2027 cycle has officially begun. The IEEPCO has set the election date for June 6, 2027, to renew the state congress and municipal councils across 152 municipalities.

In legal and administrative news, Noé Jara Cruz, brother of the governor, voluntarily appeared before the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) to address allegations linking him to the Alianza de Sindicatos y Asociaciones del Estado de Oaxaca (ASAEO) following the arrest of several of its leaders. He denied any criminal ties, stating his interactions with union members were strictly related to his previous public service roles.

Additionally, Deputy Margarita García has called for an investigation into the Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Oaxaca (Cobao), alleging administrative opacity, labor rights violations, and the misuse of public funds.
