Oaxaca court sentences man to 210 years for 15 murders and feminicides
A judge in Oaxaca, Mexico, has sentenced Inocencio R. S. to 210 years in prison for the qualified homicide and feminicide of 15 people. The victims, including 13 men and two women from the indigenous ikoots community, were killed during an attack on June 21, 2020, in Huazantlán del Río, San Mateo del Mar.
The attack occurred while a group was holding a civil protest regarding an internal political conflict. The violence was linked to systemic social divisions stemming from wind energy megaprojects and local economic power disputes.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the defendant to pay 6,516,000 pesos in reparations to the victims' families and a fine of 86,880 pesos.
