Mexico: Morena proposes election annulment rules and files criminal complaints

In Mexico, the Morena party is pursuing multiple legal and legislative actions. In the Chamber of Deputies, the party has proposed a new law regarding electoral media challenges. This initiative seeks to establish criteria for annulling elections in cases where media coverage is deemed “undue.” Such coverage would be defined as systematic and repetitive activity intended to influence voters rather than serving a journalistic purpose.

Separately, the political group México Nuevo has filed a criminal complaint with the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) against the Governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara. The complaint alleges involvement in organized crime, including extortion, kidnapping, and money laundering, based on various journalistic reports.

Additionally, Morena legislators from Hidalgo have filed complaints against PRI Senator Carolina Viggiano Austria. The allegations include illicit enrichment, tax simulation, and the use of irregular resources related to a luxury property in Lomas de Chapultepec, valued at over 40 million pesos. The complainants have also requested that the Tax Administration Service (SAT) investigate potential fiscal irregularities.
