Oaxaca implements social tourism program and legislative reforms

The government of Oaxaca has launched ‘Raíces Viajeras’, a social tourism program designed to provide elderly citizens aged 60 to 70 with opportunities to visit various destinations within the state. The program aims to promote well-being and dignity through accompanied travel. In its first stage, the initiative focused on 15 municipalities in the Valles Centrales region, benefiting 144 people through trips to Puerto Escondido, including Puerto Angelito and Zicatela beaches. The state government plans to conduct 21 trips in total, aiming to benefit 1,008 seniors.

In a separate effort to strengthen the sector, Deputy Haydeé Reyes has introduced an initiative in the local Congress to bolster the Oaxaca Tourism Observatory. The proposal seeks to grant the observatory's Governing Board more inclusive decision-making power by involving representatives from various sectors to better analyze market trends and guide public policy. Additionally, Reyes has pushed for improvements in signage, accessibility, and mobility within tourist zones to assist visitors with disabilities, elderly individuals, and pregnant women.
