Oaxaca municipalities approve dam aqueduct, renew neighborhood committees

On June 20, municipal, agrarian authorities and residents of Yogana, Villa Sola de Vega and Heroica Ciudad de Ejutla de Crespo in Oaxaca's Sierra Sur reaffirmed support for the construction of an aqueduct linked to the Mujer Solteca dam. The State Water Commission (Ceabien), in coordination with the State Government Secretariat and the National Water Commission (Conagua), conducted indigenous consultations to ensure participation of original peoples. The project is intended to supply water to the Oaxaca Metropolitan Area, a goal pursued for decades.

Separately, Oaxaca de Juárez's Secretariat of Government and Territory, through its Directorate of Agencies, Neighborhoods and Colonies, held elections to form new Neighborhood Committees in the Los Sauces and San Martín residential areas. Residents voted to appoint representatives who will convey community concerns to municipal authorities, strengthening participatory governance and local development.
