Oaxaca prosecutor charges suspect in extortion and “gota‑a‑gota” loan fraud

The Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca (FGEO) secured a court order linking a man identified as A.M.Z. to a telephone‑extortion scheme that began on 18 April 2023. Victims reported threatening calls and, on 7 May 2023, gunfire aimed at a property, followed by demands for payments of 30,000‑60,000 pesos. After an arrest warrant was issued, authorities captured the suspect on 28 May 2026 and a judge ordered preventive detention.

In a separate investigation, the FGEO examined a “gota‑a‑gota” (daily‑installment) loan dispute in Puerto Escondido. The victim, E.C., allegedly faced intimidation after borrowing cash from private lenders in April 2026. An encounter on 30 April 2026 with a Colombian‑identified woman, Y.M.R.A., reportedly involved threats toward the victim and family. The case has been filed and awaits a hearing.
