Oaxaca ranks among Mexico's safest states as crime falls 32%

The state of Oaxaca was confirmed as the fifth safest region in Mexico, reporting a 32 % drop in overall crime during the latest security council session led by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz. The report highlighted notable advances: femicide cases moved from 26th to 8th place nationally, while extortion improved from 11th to 6th. Authorities seized more than 19 million pesos from organized‑crime financial networks, detained over 21 000 offenders, confiscated 1 729 weapons and prevented 45 233 doses of suspected drugs from reaching children and adolescents. Additional seizures included 279 089 L of illicit fuel, 4 000 L of LPG and the recovery of 2 964 stolen vehicles. Search operations rose sharply, with raids increasing by 2 832 %, prosecution initiation up 24 % and warrant execution up 37 %. About 80 % of previously reported missing persons have been located. Investment in public safety totaled 1 265 million pesos, funding 487 new patrol units, 25 368 uniforms, 14 security arches, 200 radio sets, 1 062 video‑monitoring systems and a transition to a C5i command platform with over 4 000 real‑time cameras and 420 emergency buttons. Police salaries rose 32.59 % and a pension law was approved, granting retirement at age 50 after 20 years of service.
