Oaxaca State Police faces investigation over officer misconduct

The Oaxaca State Police is facing an internal crisis following the viral spread of videos and images showing officers consuming alcohol while wearing official uniforms. One incident involving an agent from the Second Company of the Seventh Battalion led to an investigation by Internal Affairs and the subsequent irrevocable resignation of the officer involved.

A second set of images, appearing to show three female officers with alcoholic beverages, is also under investigation. Reports suggest the photo may have been taken within a high-ranking official's office or at the Santa María Coyotepec barracks during working hours. The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection is currently verifying the authenticity and origin of these images.

In addition to the misconduct regarding alcohol, the corporation is facing accusations of providing protection to a drug dealer. Commissioner Francisco Santiago García has publicly condemned the behavior, stating that actions discrediting the institution will not be tolerated. If administrative faults are proven, involved personnel could face disciplinary procedures, including permanent dismissal from the force.
