Oaxaca students recognized for international arithmetic success
The government of Oaxaca has recognized a delegation of 14 children for their success at the 2026 ALOHA Mental Arithmetic International Championship held in Panama. Governor Salomón Jara Cruz welcomed the group, noting that 100 percent of the Oaxacan representatives earned honors after competing against more than 1,000 participants from over 20 countries.
Among the top achievers, several students earned the ‘Grand Champion’ distinction, including Leonardo Martínez Castillo, Jesús Santiago Torres Cruz, Mildred Isabel Vásquez Reyes, Sendler Binizza Anacleto Cruz, and Emir Alderete Quiroga. Other students received ‘Champion’ status or first and third-place rankings after solving 70 arithmetic operations in under five minutes without the use of a calculator.
