Oaxacan student withdraws from UNAM medical program following exam dispute

Brisa Nisdany García Santiago, a 17-year-old student from Oaxaca, has withdrawn from the medical school admission process at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The decision follows allegations from UNAM officials regarding purported irregularities in her remote entrance exam, in which she achieved a perfect score of 120 out of 120.

García Santiago’s father, Pablo García, described discussions with UNAM representatives as “estériles” (sterile) and lacking clear guarantees or agreements. He rejected the institution's claims of anomalies, labeling them unfounded and decontextualized. The family has decided not to pursue legal action or wait for the official selection lists scheduled for late August.

Despite the setback, García Santiago, who graduated from CETIS 124 with the highest average in her class, intends to pursue health sciences at another institution, such as the Escuela Médico Militar of the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena). She had previously passed the admission exam for the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM).
