Oaxaca's IAGO launches graffiti memory exhibition

The Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO) opened the exhibition “Me veo allí donde no estoy. Evocaciones difusas a través de un archivo incompleto de graffiti” on 7 August at the El Alacrán space in Oaxaca. Curated and coordinated by Itandehui Franco Ortiz and with museography by Emmanuel Santos “Cer”, the show presents photographs, sketches, aerosol cans and other objects contributed by more than 30 graffiti artists who shaped the city’s urban landscape between 1995 and 2005, including Mex, Wacko, Yankel and Beach. It is part of the “Un archivo incompleto de graffiti” program and stems from the “Cartografías Callejeras” initiative, which gathered over 900 images and documents through workshops, talks and creative labs. The exhibition also highlights the contributions of women artists, a historically under‑represented group. Secretary of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza said the project “recovers the memory of a generation that renewed Oaxaca’s urban landscape and opens it to dialogue with new generations.”
