Obama visits his Presidential Center during WNBA All‑Star weekend in Chicago

The Obama Presidential Center, a 20‑acre community campus that opened in June 2026 in Jackson Park on Chicago’s South Side, features a plaza with a statue of Barack and Michelle Obama, a library branch, gardens and a rooftop farm. The venue hosted several events for the 2026 WNBA All‑Star weekend, including team practices, media availabilities and a Jr. WNBA youth program.

During the festivities, former President Barack Obama made an unplanned appearance, praising the players’ achievements and growth of the sport. He spoke to the All‑Stars, took photos, and even played a quick game of “H‑O‑R‑S‑E.” Players such as Angel Reese, Jackie Young, Natasha Howard and Kiki Iriafen described the encounter as “surreal” and “the best day” of the event.

The visit highlighted the Center’s role as a public gathering place and underscored the intersection of sports, community outreach and the legacy of the former president.
