Obed Vargas may return to Atlético de Madrid lineup

Mexican midfielder Obed Vargas may return to action for Atlético de Madrid following his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming LaLiga match against RCD Espanyol on October 17. Vargas has not played official minutes in nearly five months, having last appeared on May 24 during the previous season.

The opportunity arises due to significant absences in Atlético’s midfield, specifically Koke and Johnny Cardoso, who are sidelined with physical issues and acute gastroenteritis. Vargas, who was previously a target for transfer during the summer window, could serve as a replacement or even a starter.

His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, previously clarified that Vargas remained at the club this season because Atlético’s management rejected several loan offers from teams such as Valencia and Sevilla. Pimenta suggested the club's decision to retain him might have been driven by economic considerations, as the board preferred to keep him in the squad rather than allow him to depart.
