Oberallgäu mountain rescues result in two fatalities

The Bergwacht in Oberallgäu reported a high volume of emergency operations between August 3 and August 9. The period included several severe mountain accidents, most notably two fatal falls. On August 6, a 16-year-old female died following a fall in the Spielmannsau area, despite extensive rescue efforts involving helicopters and police units. Earlier, on August 4, a 74-year-old climber died after a serious fall at Großer Gund.

In addition to these fatalities, rescue teams responded to numerous medical emergencies and technical rescues across various locations, including Gaisalpsee, Nebelhorn, and Rappenseekopf. Operations included winch rescues for hikers in steep terrain and assistance for individuals caught in nighttime thunderstorms. The Bergwacht noted that their personnel operate as volunteers throughout the year to provide mountain safety.
