Oberhausen residents criticize McDonald's waste management deal

In Oberhausen, a waste management agreement between the city and a local McDonald's franchise is facing criticism from residents. The deal, which involved the city installing eight additional trash cans on Mülheimer Straße, required the franchise to empty the bins daily and collect litter within a two-meter radius at no cost.

Local residents report that litter has visibly increased since the implementation of the project, leading to doubts regarding whether the cleaning and emptying duties are being fulfilled. In response, franchise owner Nikolai Schwandt stated that employees check and empty the bins several times a week based on the volume of waste, rather than on a strictly daily schedule.
