The 8th Youth Parliament of Oberhausen has officially commenced its term. Following an election involving 54 candidates, 27 young people aged 13 to 19 were selected to represent the interests of children and adolescents in the city.
Mayor Thorsten Berg welcomed the new members, emphasizing that they are an active part of city politics and encouraging them to use their platform to propose ideas and ask critical questions. The group represents 14 different schools in the region. The election saw a voter turnout of 53.3 percent, an increase from the previous term.
The parliament's term will last until 2028. In their upcoming session, the members will elect their chairperson, spokespeople for working groups, and determine which city council committees they will be represented in.
