Oberpfalz faces skilled labor shortage amid recognition hurdles
The Oberpfalz region in Germany is facing a significant shortage of skilled workers across multiple key sectors, including healthcare, crafts, industry, and IT. While there is potential to fill these gaps using professionals who obtained their qualifications abroad, much of this talent remains underutilized due to legal uncertainties and complex administrative recognition processes.
Recognition procedures differ based on the type of profession. Regulated professions, such as doctors, nurses, and teachers, require formal recognition or specific licenses to practice legally. In contrast, most vocational roles in the industrial and commercial sectors, such as mechatronics or retail specialists, do not strictly require formal recognition for employment, though it remains a factor for integration into the regional labor market.
