Oberschwabenklinik expands Central Emergency Department in Ravensburg

The Oberschwabenklinik is upgrading the Central Emergency Department (ZNA) at St. Elisabethen‑Klinikum Ravensburg in response to steadily rising demand. About 46,000 patients were treated in 2025 and the clinic projects roughly 52,000 contacts for 2026. The closure of the Tettnang Hospital emergency unit at the end of May 2026 has further accelerated patient inflow, with up to 65 patients present simultaneously during peak periods, straining existing capacity.

To alleviate overcrowding, the clinic will incorporate parts of the short‑stay ward C01 into the ZNA beginning 1 October 2026, creating six additional examination/monitoring stations and six observation beds. The full integration of C01 is planned for October 2027, alongside a staff expansion. “Our staff work under high pressure, delivering excellent care,” said Dr. Alexander Pohle, chief physician of the central emergency department.
