Oberwiesenthal hosts 123rd German Hiking Day

The 123rd German Hiking Day (Deutscher Wandertag) concluded in Oberwiesenthal, featuring a significant European dimension through its simultaneous occurrence with EURORANDO. The event brought together hikers from Germany and across Europe under the motto ‘bewegt verbunden’.

A symbolic monument, the ‘Steinerne Herz Europas’ (Stone Heart of Europe), was inaugurated at the Czech border in Bozi Dar to represent cross-border connection. Participants contributed stones from their respective homelands to the monument.

During the event, the German Hiking Association (Deutscher Wanderverband) held its general assembly, electing Dirk Landau as the new president, succeeding Dr. Michael Ermrich. Additionally, the association and the Saxon State Tourism Association performed a symbolic tree planting to promote climate-resilient forests, contributing to a total of approximately 2,500 trees planted to honor volunteer engagement and link nature conservation with regional tourism.
