Obesity linked to 11.5% of cancer cases in new study

A large analysis of 458,543 participants from the UK Biobank, led by the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), found that up to 11.5% of all cancers could be attributed to excess body weight. The estimate far exceeds earlier figures of 2‑8% and highlights the role of abdominal fat, which releases inflammatory adipokines that may promote tumor growth.
