Obesity rates in Poland exceed EU average as weight loss market grows

Recent health data indicates a significant rise in overweight and obesity rates among the Polish population. According to Eurostat, 58.8% of Polish adults are either overweight or obese, consisting of 19.4% obesity and 39.4% overweight. This figure is notably higher than the European Union average of 51.7%.

Data from the WOBASZ3 national cardiovascular health study highlights that excess body weight affects approximately 18 million people in Poland. While other health indicators show improvement—such as smoking rates dropping from 31% to 17% over two decades—obesity remains a critical issue that often coexists with hypertension and metabolic disorders, increasing the risk of heart disease and other complications.

This health trend is driving a substantial market for weight management products. The market for non-prescription weight loss aids in Poland is projected to reach 504 million PLN by 2026. This sector includes dietary supplements, meal replacements, slimming teas, and nutritional drinks.
