Obihiro Municipal Museum hosts Momoko Sakura exhibition

The “Momoko Sakura Exhibition” opened on September 19 at the Obihiro Municipal Museum in Hokkaido. The exhibition celebrates the life and work of the late manga artist Momoko Sakura (1965–2018), best known for creating “Chibi Maruko-chan” and “Kojiko-ji.”

The display features approximately 300 items, including original color drawings, handwritten manuscripts, and related materials. The exhibition is organized into seven chapters, tracing Sakura’s artistic origins, the development of her signature worldview, and her diverse creative activities, which included essay collections and song lyrics.

Visitors can also experience audio recordings of Sakura from radio programs in the early 1990s and compare her expressions across manga and essays. This exhibition serves as the final stop in a national tour and is the only venue for the event in Hokkaido. It will run until November 23.
