Obiora Okonkwo named Travel Personality of the Year

Professor Obiora Okonkwo, Executive Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, has been named Travel Personality of the Year and included in Nigeria’s Top 100 Travel and Tourism Icons for 2025/2026. The recognition, determined via public voting, honors his leadership in the growth of the airline since its establishment.

Adedayo Olawuyi, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, accepted the award on Okonkwo’s behalf during the 22nd Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos. Ikechi Uko, the organizer of the Travellers Awards, noted that the recognition highlights the rapid expansion of United Nigeria Airlines over its less than six years of operation and its impact on the Nigerian travel industry through improved connectivity and operational efficiency.

The Travellers Awards, established in 1996 by Travellers Magazine, recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to aviation, travel, and tourism across Africa.
