Obituary: Madeleine Fortin (née Campbell) passes away at 94

Madeleine Fortin (née Campbell) passed away in Gatineau on October 4, 2026, at the age of 94. A long-time resident of Bedford, she was a prominent figure in her community, serving on the Bedford municipal council for 26 consecutive years after her initial election in 1987.

Beyond her political service, Fortin was a dedicated volunteer and community leader. She served on the initial board of directors that facilitated the establishment of the CLSC and CHSLD in Bedford and held leadership roles in various organizations, including the Filles d'Isabelle, the municipal library, and the Centre d’Action Bénévoles.

In 2002, her community contributions were recognized nationally when she received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. She is survived by her son Patrice, her grandson Rafael, and other family members.
