Oblique Seville leads Jamaican presence at Ultimate Championships

Jamaican sprinters Oblique Seville and Tina Clayton are set to compete in the 100m finals at the inaugural Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary. In the men’s qualifying, Seville won with a time of 9.90 seconds, finishing ahead of Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and the USA’s Christian Coleman.

In the women’s semi-finals, Tina Clayton placed third with a time of 10.98 seconds, securing her spot in the final alongside Jonielle Smith. Other notable performers in the women’s heats included St Lucia’s Julien Alfred and Americans Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Sha’Carrie Richardson.

Despite the strong Jamaican presence, former Olympic champion Donovan Bailey noted that the event may lack some star power due to the absence of several major athletes. High-profile competitors such as Noah Lyles, Sydney McLaughlin Levrone, and Faith Kipyegon are expected to miss the championships for various reasons.
