Obrist-Gruppe companies file for insolvency with 31.8 million euro debt
Three companies within the Lustenau-based Obrist-Gruppe have filed for insolvency, facing combined liabilities totaling approximately 31.8 million euros. The affected entities include Obrist Powertrain, Obrist Technologies, and the German-based Obrist DE.
Obrist Powertrain carries the largest debt burden at roughly 18.9 million euros, while Obrist Technologies and Obrist DE owe approximately 6.1 million and 6.8 million euros, respectively. Founder Frank Obrist cited high development costs, a lack of sustained revenue, and failed negotiations with investors as the primary causes for the filings. The companies had focused on developing hybrid drive systems and methanol-based fuel technologies.
In the insolvency filings, the group noted that the European Union’s strategic shift toward purely electric vehicles has negatively impacted the viability of hybrid propulsion technologies. While these three subsidiaries are facing liquidation, the parent company, Obrist Engineering, remains unaffected and continues to employ approximately 30 people.
