Observability technologies and Kubernetes metric management

The landscape of observability is evolving through new technologies such as eBPF-based instrumentation, Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) models, columnar data stores like ClickHouse, and telemetry pipelines. eBPF, specifically, allows for zero-code instrumentation by running sandboxed programs within the Linux kernel to monitor network events and system calls without modifying application code.

In Kubernetes environments, managing observability remains a challenge due to the loosely coupled nature of controllers and third-party operators. While the kube-state-metrics component provides standard metrics for core resources like Deployments and Services, users can leverage the Custom Resource State Metrics feature to expose specific fields from Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) as Prometheus-compatible metrics, avoiding the need for manual implementation in Go code.
