Obsession horror film surpasses $500 million at global box office

The independent horror film ‘Obsession’, directed by Curry Barker, has surpassed $500 million at the global box office. Produced on a micro-budget estimated between $750,000 and $1 million, the film has become the first original movie of the 2020s to reach this milestone, surpassing Pixar’s ‘Elemental’.

Distributed by Focus Features, the film has earned approximately $263.4 million domestically in the United States and over $238 million internationally. Notable international markets contributing to this total include China, the United Kingdom, and India. The film’s success is attributed to strong word-of-mouth and high critical acclaim, maintaining a 94-95% Rotten Tomatoes score.

The film’s lead, Inde Navarrette, has seen a significant career boost due to her performance, with reports indicating she is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Co-star Michael Johnston is also reportedly in discussions for major upcoming roles. Barker is currently working on a follow-up project titled ‘Anything but Ghosts’.
