Obsession film achieves massive box office success after rejecting Netflix

The independent horror film ‘Obsession’, directed by Curry Barker, has achieved massive commercial success, surpassing $100 million at the worldwide box office despite a production budget of less than $1 million.

Following a successful screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the production team rejected a lucrative streaming offer from Netflix in favor of a theatrical release. Focus Features, backed by Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, secured global distribution rights with a deal valued at approximately $15 million.

By prioritizing traditional cinema screens over immediate streaming availability, the film has delivered one of the highest returns on investment in recent cinema history, proving the viability of low-budget independent productions against high-budget blockbusters.
