Obsession film explores dark consequences of a romantic wish
The film ‘Obsession’, directed by Curry Barker, follows a young man named Bear who uses a mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to wish that his childhood friend, Nikki, would fall in love with him. While the wish is granted, it results in dark and sinister consequences.
As the story progresses, Nikki’s behavior becomes increasingly possessive and psychopathic, reminiscent of the ‘Fatal Attraction’ trope. The narrative explores themes of entitlement and the ‘Nice Guy’ archetype, depicting a protagonist whose desire for affection evolves into a disregard for the female lead's personhood and autonomy.
