Obuasi authorities investigate death of seven-month-old baby found in drain

The body of a seven-month-old baby was discovered in a drain in the Obuasi Old Estate area of Ghana’s Ashanti Region during the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026. The infant was reportedly found between midnight and 01:00.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death and how the child ended up in the drainage system. It remains unclear whether the death was accidental or if the child was placed there. Kofi Mensah, the Assembly Member for the Estate Electoral Area, assisted in retrieving the body and has made arrangements for the burial while the investigation proceeds.
