Obuasi SHS Headmaster suspended over sexual misconduct allegations
Ghana's Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has ordered the immediate suspension of Zakaria Abdulai, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region. The suspension follows allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The directive was issued after investigations by JoyNews and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni brought the alleged misconduct to light. The Minister has instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to implement the suspension while a full investigation is conducted. Additionally, the Minister has requested that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service launch its own investigation into the matter.
The Ministry of Education and the GES issued statements emphasizing that sexual misconduct will not be tolerated in any educational institution. They noted that teachers and school authorities have a responsibility to protect and safeguard students entrusted to their care.
