Oburu Oginga hospitalised in Nairobi under strict medical isolation

Dr. Oburu Oginga, the 83-year-old Siaya Senator and leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has been hospitalised in Nairobi. Reports indicate he was admitted on Sunday, August 30, following concerns regarding severe fatigue.

Medical staff have implemented strict isolation protocols and visitor restrictions to ensure the veteran politician receives uninterrupted rest. These measures have reportedly caused friction with several Members of Parliament who were denied access to the facility. While senior officials, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, were initially granted access, medical teams have since restricted visitation to only his two spouses and children to prioritise his recovery.

Family sources noted that the lockdown became necessary after Oginga attempted to leave his bed on Saturday to attend a burial in Siaya County. His medical team intervened, insisting that total rest is non-negotiable. Some reports suggest his family is considering flying him to the United Kingdom for specialised medical treatment, though no official statement has been released by the ODM or the hospital regarding his specific condition.
