Oburu Oginga's office debunks social media death rumors

The Office of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader has dismissed social media reports claiming that Dr. Oburu Oginga has died, describing the claims as “malicious, unfounded fake news and propaganda.”

In a statement issued on October 6, 2026, the secretariat clarified that the Siaya County Senator is alive, safe, and in good spirits. While Oginga is currently following medical directives to observe a “forced rest” and limit heavy physical engagements, he remains mentally alert and engaged in national and party matters.

During a handover ceremony for the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Oginga’s son, Jaoko Odinga, spoke on his father's behalf. Jaoko confirmed that the senator is adhering to a strict recovery program ordered by his medical team, which prevents him from attending physically demanding events.
