Occupational health and safety risks and prevention measures

Occupational risks encompass all dangers to which an employee is exposed due to their work, including accidents such as falls or collisions, occupational diseases like musculoskeletal disorders or chemical exposure, and mental health impacts. Employers are legally obligated to evaluate these risks, record them in a single document, and implement appropriate prevention measures.

Prevention involves distinguishing between a hazard—the intrinsic property of an element capable of causing damage—and risk, which is the probability of that damage occurring based on exposure frequency and duration. While hazards cannot always be removed, exposure can be significantly reduced.

In Canada, the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) is organizing a scientific symposium on May 27, 2027, at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal. The event will focus on noise-related risks in the workplace, bringing together researchers and industry professionals to share knowledge and discuss emerging solutions for safer work environments.
