Occupational health experts urge validated psychosocial screening for workers

Experts emphasize that psychosocial screening for employees must utilize instruments with proven validity and reliability, tailored specifically to the examination goals and the characteristics of the workers.

Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi S. Soemarko, an occupational medicine specialist from the University of Indonesia, noted that psychosocial screening for workers differs from general public screenings due to unique workplace stressors. Factors such as workload, interpersonal relationships, organizational support, and work-life balance must be considered to ensure accurate results.

In the oil and gas industry, psychosocial screening is also linked to occupational safety. Dr. Royanul Arief from SKK Migas stated that unaddressed mental fatigue can lead to decreased productivity and increased risks of workplace accidents. However, he cautioned that screening results are not equivalent to a medical diagnosis and should not be used as the sole basis for determining work fitness without further assessment.
