OccupyGhana urges EOCO and BNI to limit investigative restrictions

The civil society organization OccupyGhana has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), and other investigative bodies to ensure that economic crime investigations do not function as a form of punishment.

The group expressed concern regarding the use of account freezes, travel restrictions, and high bail conditions against individuals who have not been formally charged in court. OccupyGhana specifically cited the investigation into Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Ltd as a primary example of these practices.

According to the group, approximately 66 accounts belonging to PDS and associated individuals have been frozen since April 2026. Furthermore, two PDS officials were reportedly granted agency-imposed bail of GH¢50 million each, which was later increased to GH¢100 million each within a week, despite no formal charges being filed. The organization also noted that the officials and two lawyers have been required to report to EOCO three times a week since May.
