Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City shuts gaming floor after fire‑caused flooding
A small fire broke out in the linen capture room of Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday. The Atlantic City Fire Department reported heavy smoke and burning debris.
Firefighters used large volumes of water to extinguish the blaze, which caused a ceiling in the hotel lobby to collapse and damaged elevator shafts and back‑of‑house hallways. The casino’s gaming floor was closed for the day, and the hotel operated at limited capacity. A $30,000 slot tournament scheduled for 3‑8 p.m. was cancelled. Restaurants, pools and other amenities remained open.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. A guest, Chris, described water‑main break alerts, malfunctioning elevators and difficulty navigating the spa‑to‑lobby stairs, but noted that by late afternoon most non‑gaming areas had resumed normal service.
