Oceanographic Museum of Monaco exhibition reaches one million visitors
The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco’s major exhibition, ‘Méditerranée 2050’, has surpassed one million visitors since its opening in March 2025. The showcase utilizes 1,000 square meters of interactive displays and multimedia storytelling to explore the vulnerability and future of the Mediterranean Sea.
Structured across four themed sections, the exhibition contrasts current environmental pressures with an optimistic vision for the year 2050. This vision includes managed shipping lanes to protect whales, regulated maritime traffic, and an interconnected network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). The exhibit aligns with global biodiversity frameworks, such as the 30x30 pact, which aims to protect 30 percent of the planet’s land and oceans by 2030.
Data collected from visitor surveys indicates a significant impact on public awareness. Approximately 98 percent of respondents reported an increased awareness of regional environmental threats, and 60 percent expressed a desire to take practical protective steps. While 70 percent of visitors identified collective cooperation as the primary solution for preservation, the findings also revealed a knowledge gap, with only 43 percent of respondents recognizing MPAs as a vital defense mechanism.
