OceanX floating wind platform begins operations in China
The OceanX platform, also known as Mingyang Tiancheng, has begun operations off the coast of Yangjiang in China's Guangdong province. Developed by the Chinese group Mingyang, the floating structure features a unique V-shaped design that supports two 8.3-megawatt wind turbines on a single shared platform.
Located approximately 70 kilometers from the coast in water about 45 meters deep, the installation reached an operational milestone in December 2024. The structure is massive, with the highest point of the turbine blades reaching 219 meters above the water and a maximum width of approximately 369 meters. The total swept area of the blades exceeds 52,000 square meters.
The platform is designed to produce roughly 54 million kWh of electricity per year, providing power for thousands of homes. To maintain stability against wind and wave forces, the structure utilizes a Y-shaped foundation that connects three large floaters to support the weight and movement of the turbines.
