Ochanya Owoicho awarded scholarship for UK postgraduate studies
Ochanya Owoicho, the first female of Idoma extraction to graduate with first-class honors from the Nigerian Law School, has been awarded a scholarship for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
Through the Godwin Obla Foundation, Chief Godwin Obla, SAN, has provided £33,000 for tuition at Queen Mary University of London, where Owoicho will pursue an LLM in Artificial Intelligence and the Law. Additionally, ₦25 million has been allocated for her living expenses.
During a ceremony in Abuja, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, President-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, encouraged Owoicho to use her studies to investigate ethical concerns and algorithmic bias in AI within Nigeria and Africa. Barrister Paul Edeh, Secretary-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, also urged her to remain focused on her academic goals to continue the cycle of mentorship.
