OCNH urges implementation of human rights recommendations in Haiti
The Organisation des Citoyens pour une Nouvelle Haïti (OCNH) held a workshop on September 15, 2026, to discuss the implementation of recommendations from the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The meeting brought together various stakeholders, including the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Patrick Pélissier, and acting Citizen Protector Jean Wilner Morin, to address the status of human rights commitments made by Haiti.
Key areas of focus included access to justice, the right to identity, prolonged preventive detention, and prison conditions. OCNH Executive Director Camille Occius emphasized the need for concrete actions and improved coordination between the state, the Office of the Citizen Protector (OPC), human rights organizations, and international partners.
Jean Wilner Morin noted that while Haiti accepted 205 recommendations in January 2022 regarding security, justice, and the protection of vulnerable persons, the current priority is measuring actual progress. He highlighted ongoing challenges such as insecurity, impunity, and the rights of internally displaced persons.
