Lugoj: Drunk, unlicensed driver causes crash onto restaurant terrace

A high-speed police chase in Lugoj ended in a serious accident after a 27-year-old driver, who was operating a vehicle without a valid license, ignored police signals. The driver, who tested positive for 1.02 mg/l of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle and collided with another car driven by a 20-year-old woman.

The impact caused the second vehicle to be projected onto the terrace of a local restaurant. Four people required medical attention and were transported to the hospital: the 27-year-old driver, the 20-year-old female driver, a 16-year-old passenger, and a 44-year-old man who was on the restaurant terrace at the time of the collision.

Authorities have opened a criminal case involving driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft for use, and culpable bodily injury. The suspect has been detained for 24 hours at the Timiș Preventive Detention and Arrest Center.
