Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez arrested near San Diego

Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez, a Mexican national wanted for attempted femicide, was apprehended by the U.S. Coast Guard off the coast of San Diego, California. He was attempting to enter the United States illegally using an improvised boat, known as a panga.

Cortés Jiménez is accused of a June 29 attack against a receptionist at the Park Life Paradox hotel in the Santa Fe area of Mexico City. Security footage of the assault, which showed him physically and verbally attacking the employee, had previously circulated widely on social media.

Authorities in Mexico had expanded their search internationally following the incident. U.S. Border Patrol confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect had a prior arrest in California in October 2025 related to domestic violence. He remains in U.S. custody pending legal proceedings regarding his potential return to Mexico to face charges.
