Octavio Ocampo Announces PRD Goal to Reclaim Eastern Michoacán Municipalities by 2027

Octavio Ocampo, the PRD promoter in Michoacán, inaugurated the first regional assembly in Zitácuaro on 26 July 2026, addressing more than 1,500 attendees. He welcomed PRI councilor Apolinar Vargas García, who announced his switch to the PRD, and highlighted participation from leaders across Zitácuaro, Tuzantla, Jungapeo, Irimbo, Juárez, Tuxpan, Hidalgo, Senguio, Tlalpujahua, Maravatío, Aporo and Angangueo.

Ocampo declared that the PRD will be a major force in the 2027 state elections, aiming to win the governorship, mayoralties and additional seats in the local congress. He pledged to recover the municipalities of Michoacán’s eastern region and symbolically paint them yellow. Emphasising the need for peace, order and economic opportunity, he criticised leaders who govern “from a desk” without hearing citizens.

Interim PRD state president Verónica García Reyes said the assemblies will strengthen party organization and maintain dialogue with the public. Ocampo called on militants to deepen grassroots outreach, visit communities and build a plural, democratic project to restore Michoacán’s greatness.
