Octavio Ocampo opens inaugural environmental education forum in Tingambato, Mexico
On 18 July 2026, Octavio Ocampo, promoter of the “Para recuperar la Grandeza de Michoacán” movement, inaugurated the first environmental education forum — “Educar para cuidar, proteger para conservar” — at the Casa de la Cultura in Tingambato, Michoacán. The event gathered teachers, students, researchers, producers, community leaders and citizens who discussed the region’s natural and social wealth and the need to protect approximately 1,500 hectares of forest.
Ocampo stressed the priority of strengthening environmental education through participatory spaces. Speakers included Vicente Estrada Torres, president of the State Ecology Council (COEECO); Dr. Marcial Reyes of COEECO; Ozari Mareth Salgado of the State Human Rights Commission; and Engineer Melchor Ornelas of the program “El despertar de Michoacán” and Radio Aguerrido. Working groups addressed environmental security, education, water quality, land‑use and youth participation, and participants signed the “Declaration of Tingambato” containing eight agreed actions.
