Quintana Roo Congress reviews justice and health reforms

The Quintana Roo Congress has begun reviewing several legislative initiatives aimed at reforming justice and health laws. Proposed changes to the state penal code include increasing prison sentences for incest from a current range of one to six years to a range of three to seven years. Additionally, a proposal seeks to raise penalties for filing false reports, which currently carry sentences of six months to two years.

In the health sector, legislators have introduced an initiative to reform the State Health Law to guarantee and expand the application of neonatal screening tests for newborns. This measure aims to ensure early diagnosis and treatment of critical conditions during the first weeks of life.

In other regional developments, the municipal government of Orizaba reported progress in infrastructure and financial stability, while the administration in Irimbo, Michoacán, received legislative support for its management. In Puerto Morelos, a social oversight committee was formed to monitor the construction of safe school crossings to ensure transparency and quality in public works.
