Odense hosts H. C. Andersen Festivals with new musical premiere

The H. C. Andersen Festivals in Odense have commenced, marking the 13th edition of the event. The festival features over 500 activities, including concerts, street food, and dance performances.

A major highlight is the symphonic concert performance of songs from a new musical titled ‘ANDERSEN’. Composed by Johannes Steinray and conducted by Mikkel Rønnow, the production features the Odense Symphony Orchestra, soloists, and a choir. The musical focuses on the themes and characters of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, such as ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and ‘The Snow Queen’, rather than a strictly biographical narrative.

The festival aims to establish itself as a significant cultural institution, with plans for the new musical to eventually tour internationally following its official premiere in Odense.
