Odense University Hospital construction faces new delays

The construction of the new Odense University Hospital (OUH) faces further delays, making the previously planned 2027 opening date unrealistic. The total contractor, Odense Hospital Project Team Joint Venture I/S (OHPT), informed Region Syddanmark that the current timeline can no longer be met.

Several factors have contributed to the setbacks, including the bankruptcy of multiple subcontractors earlier this year, which has led to labor shortages. Currently, approximately 700 workers are on-site, whereas an estimated 1,200 are required to maintain proper progress.

Region Syddanmark is currently in negotiations with OHPT regarding the project's finances and schedule. While the region had previously issued daily fines of 524,000 kroner for missed deadlines, these penalties were temporarily paused during ongoing discussions. Regional Council Chairman Bo Libergren expressed extreme disappointment, noting that the delay impacts the complex logistical planning required for moving hospital operations and equipment to the new facility.
