Odessa Beach Life Persists Amid Russian Air Attacks

The Langeron beach in Odessa remains crowded this summer, with families, children and young people enjoying the sea despite the war. Vendors such as 16‑year‑old Aline, who sells dried fish, and local seller Viola, who offers souvenirs, continue their trade while a pickup equipped with a mobile air‑defence system is parked nearby.

Russian forces can strike the port city at any moment with drones and cruise missiles, and frequent air‑raid sirens sound over the beach. Most beachgoers stay put, children keep playing, and vendors repeatedly seek shelter in nearby bunkers when alerts sound. Serhiy, who arrived from the frontline town of Nikopol with his family after a six‑year hiatus, says the situation feels calmer here, though the threat to the harbour facilities just a kilometre away persists. Residents have learned to adapt to the constant danger while trying to maintain a sense of normal life.
